Two of Bollywood’s greatest actors once had a curious case of mistaken identity
When Shah Rukh Khan entered Bollywood, everybody was surprised by the resemblance between him and Dilip Kumar from his younger days. Incidentally, it was Shah Rukh’s mother who told him that he resembled Dilip Sahab.
Conversing with a popular glossy, SRK revealed, “My mother loved Dilip Kumar and thought I looked like him”. Apparently, Shah Rukh realised this resemblance years later when he was at Ketan Mehta’s office and saw a picture of the veteran actor. He assumed it to be his own. Khan said to the mag, “I saw a picture of Dilip Kumar in his (Ketan Mehta) office and I was like ‘Oh! That’s me’.”
While the Tragedy King and King Khan, are not related to each other, as thought by many, the former was, in fact, a friend of Shah Rukh’s father. “Dad knew him. They used to live in the same galli in Delhi. I’ve met Dilip sahab many times in my childhood. We have been to his place often”, said the actor. When asked about his bonding with the veteran actor, SRK added, “My relationship with Dilip saab goes beyond films. Dilip saab and Sairaji have always thought of me as their son.”
We’re sure Dilip Kumar’s hospitalisation might not have been easy on SRK, given their father-son like relation.
