The channel has failed to get any ratings since its launch in September
After 9x, Real and Imagine, will Sony Pal face the axe? Well, according to sources, this channel which was launched in September this year is in deep trouble as the channel hardly has any ratings. According to the latest TRP report, the combined GRP of this channel which has Juhi Chawla as brand ambassador is only 14 while lead GEC Star Plus has 311. If sources are to be believed, due to this the channel may shut shop by Dec 10. Most production houses who are making shows for the channel have been served a notice to stop work.
However, Dheeraj Kumar, the producer of Singhasan Battisi says, “ There is no chance of the channel shutting down. But it is getting revamped . While some shows will go off air, mine is to stay for sure. When asked about the performance of Sony Pal, the veteran producer said, “agreed it is a slow start. But this is bound to happen in an environment where viewers constantly surf channels.” He also added that,“ if you carefully analyse the data you will see the channel has taken a growth in B and C market which is the real consumer of TV content.” This was exactly the same argument given by Anuj Kapoor, Senior EVP and Business Head, Sony Pal when he had addressed the media on the launch of Ekta Kapoor’s show Yeh Dil Sun Raha Hai. We tried getting in touch with Kapoor but he did not respond.
Pariva Pranati who plays the lead in Hamari Sister Didi says,“ I too have heard about the show and channel going off but I am sure they are rumours for we have not yet heard anything from the producer or channel. We continue to shoot as normal .” She further added that as per her information the only two shows which were relatively working on Sony Pal were Singhasan Battisi and her show about a head nurse.
Many compare the virtually similarities between Sony Pal and Zindagi , which airs Pakistani content. But the big difference lies in the costing. The cost of acquiring Pak content is very less compared to what Sony is spending to run Sony Pal.
