Top 10 grossers of 2014: Salman Khan’s Kick, Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year and Hrithik Roshan’s Bang Bang earn the top three positions




2014 started on a sluggish note with promising films like Dedh Ishqiya and Hasee Toh Phasee failing to get cash registers jingling. However, there were quite a few films which managed to work wonders at the box office. But which are the top 10 grossers of this year? Let’s take a look…

At the beginning of the year all eyes were on Salman Khan as the superstar’s much-awaited film Jai Ho was to hit the theatres in January. While the action flick didn’t witness a thunderous start at the box office, Sohail Khan’s directorial venture did rake in decent moolah. But Bhai’s first big release of this year hasn’t bagged the top slot. Neither has Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer Happy New Year nor Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif’s mega budget action flick Bang Bang which released on October 2 alongside Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Haider. Film: Kick

Director: Sajid Nadiadwala

Star cast: Salman Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Randeep Hooda

Money made: Sajid Nadiadwala’s directorial debut literally created hunagama at the box office during Eid as it collected Rs 228 crore thus becoming the highest grossing film of 2014.

Film: Happy New Year

Director: Farah Khan

Star cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah

Money made: After raking in Rs 100 crore in just three days, HNY went on to make around Rs 200 crore thus becoming the second highest grosser of this year.

Film: Bang Bang

Director: Siddharth Anand

Star cast: Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif and Danny Denzogpa

Money made: Bang Bang , which is the official remake of Hollywood flick Knight and Day, is the third highest grosser of this year with Rs 142.03 crore.

Film: Singham Returns

Director: Rohit Shetty

Star cast: Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor Khan

Money made: The second installment of Singham franchise minted around Rs 140 – 141 crore at the box office and thus grabbing the fourth spot on the list.

Film: Holiday

Director: AR Murugadoss

Star cast: Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha

Money made: Though Akshay-Sona starrer was expected to rake in big moolah, it fared decently at the ticket windows and ended up making Rs 108 crore.

Film: Ek Villain

Director: Mohit Suri

Star cast: Siddarth Malhotra, Shraddha Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh

Money made: Mohit Suri’s suspense thriller was a runaway success and did a business of Rs 103 crore approximately at the BO.

Film: 2 States

Star cast: Alia Bhatt, Arjun Kapoor, Amrita Singh, Ronit Roy, Revathy and Shiv Kumar Subramaniam

Money made: Alia and Arjun’s sizzling chesmirty was the highlight of this Dharma Production which earned around Rs 102 crore at the BO and is the seventh highest grosser of 2014.

Film: Jai Ho

Director: Sohail Khan

Star cast: Salman Khan, Tabu, Daisy Shah and Danny Denzongpa

Money made: Salman’s highly anticipated film had a slow start at the ticket windows but the film eventually picked up and raked in Rs 98 crore at the ticket windows.

Film: Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania

Director: Shashank Khaitan

Star cast: Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Shukla and Ashutosh Rana

Money made: Karan Johar’s production venture is the ninth highest grosser of this year. The film collected Rs 78 crore at the BO.

Film: Gunday

Director: Ali Abbas Zafar

Star cast: Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan Khan

Money made: YRF’s production venture which got together a league of Bollywood stalwarts in a single frame – Ranveer , Priyanka and Arjun Kapoor – went on to make approximately Rs 76 crore at the domestic BO.
