Here’s a different take on the Aamir Khan’s latest release…
Rajkumar Hirani’s magnum opus which released today, PK, is good no doubt, but is it better than his previous films? I doubt. To be honest, I have no rants against the film or the filmmaker. It is just a normal evaluation to see as to whether this film is as good as Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots and Sanjay Dutt’s Munnabhai series.
To begin with PK is a fictional story as there is an angle of an alien. On the other hand Munnabhai series and 3 Idiots had a storyline which didn’t have any fictional angle and thus was more believable.
Secondly, the plot of PK gives you the feeling of two different movies. The first half was almost inspired by the Hollywood flick The Terminal, featuring Tom Hanks, while the second half was a bit inspired by Akshay Kumar’s OMG!Oh My God. So that feeling of being unique was not there in PK, which was there in 3 Idiots and Munnabhai.
Thirdly, there are a couple of scenes in PK, where Aamir is seen standing amidst a huge crowd. Those scenes have been shot in chroma and it’s showing clearly. I know Aamir is a big star and shooting in busy streets may have caused a lot of problem, but he did the same in Dhobi Ghat and that was shot on real locations, so why not here. In 3 Idiots and Munnaibhai, there were hardly any scene where CG effects were used.
Fourthly, the music of PK was just as same as it was in the past films. The romantic tracks and the sad tracks were so much similar in feel to the songs from 3 Idiots and Munnaibhai. Thus there was a lack of inventiveness and the music sounded very redundant and done to death.
Lastly, in Munnabhai and 3 Idiots every character had equal importance and everyone was featured for equal lengths in the film while in PK its only Aamir. Actors like Sushant Singh Rajput, Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani and Sanjay Dutt haven’t been given that much screen space.
So go ahead guys, watch the film and let me know if you agree with my views or not.
