Grab your coats and fasten your seat belts as we are hitting the roads in Wajahat Rauf's upcoming road trip film, 'Karachi Se Lahore'. Currently in production, Karachi Se Lahore is the latest venture, preparing to give the Pakistani film industry the much needed boost in its revival bid. Leading names will be seen in the film which revolves around a group of friends who are travelling from Karachi to Lahore. Director Wajahat Rauf, known for his dramas (Nikkah, Karachi High, Sotelli), received his masters in mass communication from California State University and started a production house called 'Showcase' in 2003 which has recently ventured into feature films. Wajahat Rauf kindly took out some time to discuss Karachi Se Lahore with Showbiz Pakistan.
What can you tell us about Karachi Se Lahore and its cast?
Wajahat Rauf: It’s a home grown road trip movie. We’ve seen road trip movies from Hollywood and Bollywood, but never a Pakistani one. So the intention is to take the viewers along on this rollercoaster ride with us and the characters. The cast includes the exceptionally talented Javed Sheikh sb, Rashid Naz sb, Shehzad Sheikh, Ayesha Omar, Yasir Hussain, Ahmed Ali, Eshita Syed, Mantaha Tareen Maqsood, Aashir Wajahat and some guest appearances.
It’s a road trip film so a lot of the shooting is likely to be outdoors. What can you tell us about the location selection? Where has the film been shot?
Wajahat Rauf: The film was shot all over Pakistan: Karachi, Lahore, Baluchistan, Jhelum. The question I’ve been asked before is, why Baluchistan in a trip from Karachi to Lahore, but for that you need to see the film.
We haven’t really had a road trip themed film before in Pakistan so what can people look forward to in Karachi Se Lahore?
Wajahat Rauf: We hope to entertain the audiences for a good 2 ½ hours. It’s a funny film -- I think.
There are several other films releasing this year under the same genre as Karachi Se Lahore, what differentiates your film from the others?
Wajahat Rauf: I don’t think any of them feature a road trip. Also the mix of theatre, TV and film actors is fascinating. They all bring different flavours to the the film.
When can we expect the film to release? And when do you intend to share the trailer?
Wajahat Rauf: Tralier will be released soon and the film should be out on Eid-ul-Fitr or right after.
