Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's and Andy Schocken's joint documentary 'Song of Lahore', is among the 12 international documentaries, and the only Pakistani entry, which has been selected for the World Documentary Feature Competition at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival. 'Song of Lahore' will be competing for awards in the categories of Best Documentary Feature, Best New Documentary Director and Best Documentary Editing.
The documentary focuses on the music community of Lahore, which was world renowned for its music and talent until the 1970s. In 2004, Izzat Majeed founded Sachal Studios to create a space for traditional music in a nation that had rejected its musical roots. 'Song of Lahore' sheds light on a group of musicians who pick up their instruments once again and release classical and folk albums which helps Sacha Studios in gaining recognition from listeners around the world.
Tribeca Film Festival:
The Tribeca Film Festival was founded in 2001 to help boost the economic and cultural revitalization of lower Manhattan district through an annual celebration of film, music, and culture. Over 1,600 films from more than 80 countries have been screened at the festival since its launch, and its been highly praised for uniting the industry and the community around story telling and supporting filmmakers in reaching the broadest possible audience. Its 14th annual festival will be taking place from April 15 -- 26 throughout downtown Manhattan.
