Laxmi Saa was the survivor of an acid attack and showed great courage. Not only this but she was quite popular among the media. The victim was in a way rewarded for her hard work as she became the face of the women fashion outfits of Viva N Diva.
Talking to the media Laxmi Saa said the following, ”This opportunity to represent an apparel brand was a platform for me to set an example for women like me to be confident and have courage despite their physical appearances.”
Laxmi was attacked for rejecting a marriage proposal of a 31 year old when she was 15 and has been actively working so that this does not happen again. Talking about the incident she said ”It felt cold first. Then I felt an intense burning. Then the liquid melted my skin.”
“This was also a platform for me to send a clear message to criminals that women will not lose courage even after they are attacked with acid to destroy their physical beauty,” further she said. The brand wanted to give a message that beauty was not only related to physical appearance.
Talking about the matter Laxmi said “The problem is not just in being a victim but also your victimisation by the society. We are treated as if we are good for nothing and as if our lives are a waste.”
Co-founder Rupesh Jhawar added “To my eyes that are used to seeing fashion models with flawless skins dolled up in front of the cameras everyday, this view was both disturbing and inspiring. For a moment I had seen beauty in a very different way and we wanted to capture it – remove any speck of being a victim from those eyes and give them a stage, an employment, a platform, a medium to flaunt it with style.”
Laxmi has working tireless to ensure that open sale of acid is banned and who so ever commits the crime endured by her should be given just punishment and is not roaming around freely.
