LAHORE: Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif on Monday dismissed the several senior police officers after a youngster’s death via dangerous kite string in Badami Bagh Sabzi Mandi Bridge.
Station House Officers (SHOs) of Badami Bagh and Ravi Road along with the Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) of Shafeeqabad has been dismissed over the incident.
A 28-year-old person was on his way to home on a motorcycle when a kite string slit his throat near Badami Bagh Sabzi Mandi Bridge. He was immediately rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
The deceased was identified as Hafiz Rashid who was a resident of Ferozewala.
The heirs of the victim protested outside the hospital while held high officials and police responsible for the tragic incident.
Following their protest, Punjab CM took notice of the incident and sought a report from Punjab IG.
Earlier, the DIG Operations Lahore Rana Abdul Jabbar suspended the SHOs of Badami Bagh and Ravi Road police station for negligence.
The CM immediately suspended SHO Ravi Road and demoted DSP Shafiqabad to the rank of an OSD (Officer on Special Duty).
The CM has ordered against the police officers under Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act.
Sources said Shahbaz Sharif has also directed authorities to take action against businesses involving sale and manufacturing of dangerous (glass-coated or metal string) twines.
The chief minister said that the violation of the kite flying law would not be tolerated. Shahbaz Sharif also offered sympathies with the heirs of the deceased Hafiz Rashid and would to provide justice to the heirs.
