Islamabad: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is all set to inaugurate two coal-based power plants with total capacity of 1320 MW at Port Qasim in Karachi tomorrow (Tuesday).
According to RadioPakistan, the project is realization of the government’s resolution to reduce electricity demand and supply gap.
According to official source, these two power plants will add cheap electricity in power system by means of imported coal. Each power plant will produce 660 MW.
The project is joint venture of Chinese and Qatari companies Sinohydro Resources Limited and Al-Mirqab Capital.
Port Qasim Power Plant will have state-of-the-art technology that would produce coal-based, low-cost electricity with minimum environmental impacts and maximum efficiency.
The project will also provide employment opportunities to local people, adding to overall economic development of the country.
