Rumour has it that the two are considered for the lead role in remake of Malayalam blockbuster
After enthralling the fans down south, looks like Drishyam is heading up north with Hindi remake on the cards. We have learnt that Viacom 18 Motion Pictures has bought the rights of Drishyam and are planning to cast either of the two big stars - Akshay Kumar or Ajay Devgn, in the lead role. Earlier this year, superstar Mohanlal stole the thunder with his electrifying performance in the Malayam blockbuster.
“Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn have already expressed interest and the studio is currently negotiating remuneration and dates with both. In a month’s time, one of them will be finalised,” informs a source close to the production. Ajit Andhare, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures’ COO, confirmed,”Drishyam is a very exciting film with an exhilarating subject. It’s the kind of cinema we want to back as it stands on a solid script. We are happy that the film – whose rights were much sought after – has finally been closed and we have secured the rights from the film’s South producers.”
But here is the twist in the tale. We had earlier reported how Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures had sent legal notice to Malayalam director Jeethu Josheph and his team, asking them to stall the remake plans of Drishyam. Balaji Motion Pictures had purchased the adaptation rights of the novel, The Devotion of Suspect X and according to the production house, Drishyam shares the plot with the Japanese novel.
Now with the buzz of Drishyam remake out in the open, it would be interesting to see how Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures respond to the proceedings
