The actress was caught in a sex racket recently, and here is all you need to know about her
Shweta Basu Prasad has been grabbing the headlines since yesterday, but not for good reasons. The actress was arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly being involved in a prostitution racket, according to reports. But who is Shweta Prasad? We tell you…
Shweta first came into the limelight with Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2002 film Makdee – a performance that also won her the National award for Best Child Artist.
As a child artist, Prasad also acted in the Star Plus series Kahani Ghar Ghar Kii as Shruti, Parvati (Sakshi Tanwar) and Om’s (Kiran Karmarkar) daughter, and in soap operas like Karishma Kaa Karishma.
In 2005, she starred in the film Iqbal, which propelled her to mini stardom and got subsequent film offers. Her performance as Khadija (Shreyas Talpade’s sister) in the film, fetched her several accolades including the Best Supporting Actress Award at the 5th Karachi International Film Festival.
The following year, she acted in Ram Gopal Varma’s Darna Zaroori Hai as Ashu. In 2008, she debuted in Telugu cinema and played her first lead role in the film Kotha Bangaru Lokam, co-starring Varun Sandesh. The film became a large commercial success.
However, Shweta Prasad turned to the flesh trade because no films were coming her way and she had run out of money. ,”I have made wrong choices in my career and I was out of money. I had to support my family and some other good causes. All the doors were closed and some people encouraged me to get into prostitution to earn money. I was helpless and with no option left to choose, I got involved in this act. I’m not the only one who faced this problem and there are several other heroines who have gone through this phase,” Prasad confessed in a statement.
On personal front, Shweta Prasad was born in Jamshedpur, Bihar and moved to Mumbai when she was a child. Her mother Sarmishta is from West Bengal, her father Anuj is from Bihar. She is a Commerce graduate from R. N. Podar High School, Mumbai.
