The actor is putting all his efforts to raise funds for the relief program
Varun Dhawan is helping raise funds for the flood-affected people of Kashmir, through Ketto, a crowd-funding website (actor Kunal Kapoor is one of the co-founders) where you create your own page, share the link on your social network and start raising funds for your campaign.
Varun’s page reads, “Having been to J&K and having shot my debut film, Student Of The Year, there, I know the challenges the people will be facing given this devastation. I want to do something to help them. And I know there are people just like me, who want to help too. Let’s bring Jammu and Kashmir back to its feet…. We CAN make a difference together.”
The money he raises will go to the NGO Care India which will use them on survival kits (at `5,000 each) to be dispersed to affected families and individuals in J&K. Each kit includes basic amenities for survival such as tarpaulin, mats, hygiene kit (soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, sanitary napkins and disinfectant soaps) and blankets. This will help them sustain themselves to the point where they can pick their lives up and move on from the catastrophe. Varun plans to raise funds for 60 such kits. He has already funded the first 20 kits and has already raised `132,474 as against the goal (`300,000) he has set for a month.
Varun says, “A friend of mine works in Ketto and I got in touch with him. With his help and the NGO, Care India, we are raising money for the flood-affected. Care India is doing groundwork in Kashmir. I want people to contribute, if not to my charity, but in some way they feel fit. J&K is an important part of our country. We need to help our fellow Indians as much as possible.”
