The film falters at the start but quickly recovers thanks to its charming leads. In an era where audience expects something hatke everytime it walks in to a theatre, it takes a lot of effort and brainstorming as a filmmaker to floor the audience. Tamanchey is one such film which almost manages to sweep you off your feet, with its fresh take on action-romantic films. It is not the first time a romantic film has been based on a pair of criminals. So what is Tamanchey all about? Is it worth your moolah and why? Lets find out.
What’s it about:
Tamanchey tells the story of two badass criminals Munna Mishra(played by Nikhil Dwivedi) and Babu (played by Richa Chadda) who meet by twist of fate when their police van meets with an accident. Munna and Babu can’t stand each other but decide to stick together in order to avoid police. The two then embark on a journey to evade arrest and bond like house on fire. After a passionate session of love making, Babu abandons Munna in the big city of Delhi. The dejected Munna, who has fallen in love with Babu, goes around the city on a search spree and finally land on the doorsteps of a drug lord Rana (played by Amandeep Singh Sidhu). Soon Munna finds that though Babu is Rana’s toy girl, she too has feelings for him. How does the duo manage to escape from the wrath of the dreaded drug lord Rana forms the rest of the story.
What’s good:
It takes a pair of talented actors to pull off a quirky film like Tamanchey, and director Navneet Behal has just the right cast with Richa Chadda and Nikhil Dwivedi at his disposal. The two leads are heart and soul of Tamanchey as they manage to keep us hooked with their hot and sweet romance. Nikhil Dwivedi shows a lot of promise, playing his heart out as UP ka Bhaiya, with impeccable accent. Dwivedi emoted well and fits the bill of desi romeo perfectly. Richa Chadda gives a commendable performance as the bad mouthing, venom spewing Babu, who happens to have a warm and sweet side too. Chadda’s character growth through out the film is praise worthy as we see Babu getting in touch with her feminine side as the film progresses in second half. Post interval the film becomes pacy as a lot of action, drama and romance happens on screen to keep you entertained. The action sequences have been shot with novelty, giving the scenes a realistic and brutal tinch. The film’s villain played by Amandeep Singh Sidhu manages to impress with his hard hitting Haryanvi dialect and maliciously cold eyes.
What’s bad:
Tamanchey takes a lot of time in establishing characters as the main story kicks in only minutes before the interval. The first half is slow and eventless, relying heavily on its leads to keep the proceedings interesting. Though Dwivedi and Chadda have played their part with utmost honesty, there is something superficial about Munna and Babu, which should have been ironed out during scripting the film. Also, Richa Chadda seems to be getting typecast as the no nonsense fiery chick, which she needs address soon. We would like to see the talented actress try out different roles. The story is predictable and dialogues at times seems forced.
What to do?
Tamanchey is an enjoyable affair with crackling chemistry between the leads amidst the bloodshed and bullets, which keeps you entertained till the end.
