As she turns a year older today, we walk down the memory lane to look at Aishwarya’s 5 best roles…

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (Nandini): After making not so successful debut in Bollywood with Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya in 1997, Ash shot to fame in 1999 with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial venture Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam co-starring Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn. Though Ash wasn’t an established actress back then, she stood out in film despite it featuring two big names. In fact, the B-town beauty swept away almost all the awards that year for her emotionally powerful performance. This list sure would be incomplete with Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam simply because it marked the arrival of Aishwarya the actress!

Taal (Mansi): In the same year Ash delivered yet another impressive performance. Subhash Ghai’s Taal featuring the blue-eyed beauty along with Akshaye Khanna and Anil Kapoor was widely appreciated. Through this film Aishwarya not only showcased her acting prowess but also her dance skills. She didn’t won awards for tall but she sure got noticed by all the noted filmmakers.

Devdas (Paro): After Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, the former beauty queen once again teamed up with SLB for magnum opus Devdas. Along with co-stars Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit, Ash too was praised for her act as Paro. She looked absolutely stunning in the film and at the same time nailed her character to perfection.

Dhoom 2 (Sunehri): With this film, Aishwarya certainly redefined the meaning of hot. In Dhoom 2, she acted, danced and killed us with her drop-dead gorgeous looks. Even today when we talk about Ash’s style, it’s hard not to imagine her Dhoom 2 avatar, hai na?

Guru (Sujata): After showing off her slender frame in Dhoom 2, Aishwarya again floored many with her acting in Mani Ratnam’s Guru. The babe yet again proved she is more than just a pretty looking gal. She is an actress who can act and look glamorous as well.
