On World Diabetes Day, we bring you some actors whose undying spirit has had the better of diabetes….
India is referred to as the Diabetes capital of the world in the present day and even Bollywood actors are not behind in this race. There have been many actors who have had diabetes since an early age but never let their dreams fall back because of their aliment. On World Diabetes Day BollywoodLife salutes some of these actors…
Fawad Khan: The wonder boy from Pakistan who has won over Bollywood after the super successful Khoobsurat, is a diabetic since a very early age. While speaking to a leading daily Fawad informs, “I was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus Type 1. I was told that it occurs due to an auto-immune disorder.” So what does the Zindagi Gulzar Hai actor do to keep the disease at bay? He informs, “Insulin and strict monitoring. However, control can seem to pose a problem on a long term basis. The usage of a metforming-based tablet, as prescribed by the physician can help combat insulin insensitivity.” The actor has been battling and winning the disease since he was 17.
Kamal Haasan: The southern superstar suffers from type 1 diabetes. He is among those 5% of Indian diabetic population who suffer from this specific kind of diabetes. However this hasn’t bogged down his spirits and he has been flying high, be it action or direction or social work. The superstar has carved a niche for himself in world cinema despite the disease being detected at a very early stage of his career. The actor’s zest for life hasn’t been dampened by this and he continues to help people across the globe by spreading awareness about the disease via an online health portal.
Gaurav Kapur: The IPL Extra Innings host has been another big celebrity who has been battling the disease since he was 22. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, however, after a freakish accident he moved on to having type 2 diabetes. He took it upon himself to come out on the winning side of this disease. “Because of travel and eating at odd hours, it becomes difficult to follow a routine. But I try to keep a balance. If you are diabetic you need to keep the basic requirements in mind. So I make sure that I get my seven hours of sleep, eat on time and take small meals at regular intervals. Also for me exercise is a must. Stress is one of the biggest contributors in worsening diabetes. So I try to keep stress at bay, and I do that with exercise. It keeps me physically and mentally healthy. Even if my schedule is erratic, I make sure that I take my medicine on time”, says Gaurav while speaking to a leading daily. The witty actor lives a healthy lifestyle to counter the disease that has gripped him for the past 12 years now.
These were some of the B-Townies who have come on the winning side of this so-very common disease. So , on this World Diabetes Day we hope you draw some inspiration from these superstars and not let diabetes rule your life. Good luck and stay healthy!
