The hunk of Telly land opens about his upcoming show Mahakumbh, his views on reality TV show Bigg Boss 8 and friend Nigaar Khan’s participation in the same. Read on!
When I was assigned the task of interviewing Gautam Rode over the phone, I was excited as well as nervous. Going by his popularity, I imagined the Saraswatichandra fame to be approachable yet have a hint of starry attitude. They say don’t judge people before you get to know them and today I stand guilty of having done the same. Friendly, warm and safe, these three words describe Gautam the best. After winning the hearts of many with his role as Saraswatichandra in the show of the same name, the actor is ready to embark on another journey with Mahakumbh,a fantasy fiction set to be showcased on Life OK. Here’s my chat with Gautam:
Tell us about your role in Mahakumbh. How did you prepare to get a chiseled body for the show?
My role is called Rudra. He’s extremely set about who and what he is. He treats everyone equally. It’s not like if you’re a man he would treat you differently, or if you’re a woman he would act otherwise. He’s the same with everyone. Regarding preparing for my role physically, well fitness has always been a part of my life. But for my role s Rudra in the show, I had to gain weight and ended up losing tons. Luckily now, I’ve come back to normal.
How hard was it for you to wrap up Saraswatichandra and immediately start work on Mahakumbh?
Well I’m an actor so this is a part of my job. I got done with Saraswatichandra and had a 5 day gap in between before I started work on Mahakumbh. During that gap, I needed a break so took off to Trivandrum. It is one of my favourite places. I spent time there, go back and then started shooting for Mahakumbh.
We hear that next season of Nach Baliye is around the corner. Will you be hosting the show with Karan Wahi?
They haven’t approached me till now. If they do, I would love to host the show.
Have you ever been to a Kumbh mela?
No but I would love to go! (Laughs)
You have a huge fan following on social media. How do you handle criticism and negative posts on sites like Twitter?
Well I wouldn’t say I don’t feel bad. I’m human at the end of the day so criticism does hurt. But again, it’s all a part of the package. You can’t please everyone. There will be people who will hate you. What I try to do is understand why they dislike me and then learn from that.
Have you ever had to handle a crazy female fan?
(Laughs) Not really! I have received a lot of love from everyone. They keep sending me flowers and gifts which I shamelessly accept as well. That’s about it. Other than that, I’ve not really had to deal with extreme behavior of any sorts.
You had earlier stated that your good friend Nigaar Khan wouldn’t be manipulative as a contestant on Bigg Boss 8. Do you think the same is the reason for her eviction from the show?
Bigg Boss at the end of the day is a reality TV show so it’s understood that some masala is needed to keep it going. There are people in the house, fighting for no reason at all. At times when I’m watching the show, I fail to understand why they are fighting. As for Nigaar, like I said, I knew she wouldn’t be manipulative and bitchy and she wasn’t. She came out with the house with her dignity intact and we are proud of her.
Who do you think would win the show?
Frankly speaking I don’t see much of the show to know exactly who is doing what. So I don’t really know how to answer this question.
Would you go in the Bigg Boss house if given a chance?
If I’m out of work I’ll go!(Laughs) Till the time I’m getting work and I’m busy, I don’t think I’ll be entering the house.
Okay time for a rapid fire round. Here it goes:
One crazy thing you would do in a Kumbh mela
You know I would probably have an ice gola and that would be crazy for me! It’s because I mostly don’t eat outside food so this would be something new.
If you had one wish to ask for in Kumbh mela, what would it be?
I’d ask for God to keep giving me work, bless me with good roles and shows.
A television actress you would like to work with in the near future?
Okay now you are asking me tricky questions! This is a dangerous territory. But I’m going to play safe and take by buddy Nigaar Khan’s name.
One thing you like and dislike about Jennifer Winget?
What I dislike about her is that she goes on too many holidays. What I like about her is her dedication towards work. She takes it very seriously.
One thing you like and dislike about the Television industry?
One thing I dislike about the Television industry is the fact that there are no seasons in daily soaps. I would like to see a change regarding the way TV shows work these days. What I like about it is that it keeps me secure as an actor.
One Bollywood actress you find the sexiest?
Deepika Padukone
Any new year resolutions?
Work and more work
One thing that turns you on and off in women?
The thing that turns me on is the way a lady carries herself and her overall personality. One thing that turns me off is bad dressing sense. I don’t like it.
So who do you think is the best dressed actress in the Television industry?
Mouni Roy
Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian or Britney Spears, one controversy queen from Hollywood you would like to take out on a date?
I will stay away from all the three!(Laughs) I wouldn’t want to date a controversial woman, I’m not like that at all.
One thing you love and would like to change about yourself?
What I love about myself is that I’m extremely dedicated to what I do. I take my work seriously. What I could change about myself is try and be more impulsive. I’m too much of a planner so would like to change that.
