The model turned actor turned reality TV star makes a comeback to films after six years
In 2006, when Upen Patel made his acting debut in 36 China Town, with his hot looks and killer physique, everyone thought that he was here to stay. But the reality is that the London based model has been devoid of films since 2009 blockbuster Ajab Prem Ki Ghajab Kahaani. Cut to the present, the actor has gained quite a popularity thanks to his stint in reality show Bigg Boss 8. While Upen is making his presence felt in Bigg Boss house, his first film in six years, Shankar’s I, starring Vikram and Amy Jackson in lead, is finally out.
So how has Upen performed in I? Surprisingly good actually. Playing one of the main antagonist in the film, Upen has decent screen time, which the actor has grabbed with both hands. Compared to his previous films, we get to see a fitter, leaner, smarter Upen making a mark with his acting rather than his looks. The Bigg Boss Halla Bol contestant slips into the role of an arrogant super model with ease, who is hellbent to bring down a fellow rising model. His lip syncing might need little more effort, but that can be over looked since it is his first Tamil film. The reality TV star also pulls off stunts with perfection, rubbing shoulders with Vikram in fight sequences.
Overall, Upen has given a decent performance. It would be interesting to see if Mr Patel could get more films, especially South films after his villainous act in Shankar’s I.
