Drama drives its true essence from real life happenings but somehow they have their own path that rarely clashes with real life.Naturally a bit (or more) of the spice is added to make it more appealing otherwise it would be too much monotonous. So in short we cannot expect it to be too much “real”. Below I have presented a brief comparison of both:
1) There is always some sort of major class difference shown .i.e. if the hero is very rich and from a high class then the heroin will be from a very low-class background (this being the dominant scenario) and vice versa. While this is not the usual case in real life. In real life, most people tend to make relations in the people of their own class. Obviously they find a lot more benefits in it than just jumping out for people who have a very different life style.
2) The heroin seems to possess simply all the best traits in the world ,for example she will be loving, caring, un-complaining, skillful, intelligent , sacrificing, submissive, respect for elders, do job for her family and an innocent being. I mean not even a single good quality is missing in her. While in real life,no one is born perfect , whether male or female, everyone has their flaws in them and they learn and develop their personality with progressive life experiences.
3) Too much luck is shown with the main leads. I mean yes , hard work does pay off but why is it that in every other drama, their seems to be a very forced success. In real life, the situations are pretty much complex. It is not just your degree that seems to be playing the key role in your success, rather, there are a lot of other factors as well. The competition has become even more fierce with the ever increasing growth in population.
4) You are a beautiful girl with a very pretty face. You are from a poor background. But you are not like the other girls because you do not talk to boys or let them be free with you or you are too innocent to note that your cute talks are being noticed by someone and are making them fall for you. Wallah…there you go..Someone from an incredibly rich family has fallen in love with you and now he can go to any lengths against his family to marry you. This is the source of filling the most useless and unnecessary hopes in the heart of young girls.
5) The heroin usually has a back up male cousin in her family. Or if not cousin, then some other person who understands her very well, knows everything about her problems, she can count on him anytime and he is the most sincere person in the world.. but unfortunately, he is struggling in his economic life and that is why he could not marry her or may be because he got too late in expressing his feelings. His major role comes into play later on in the story when the heroin is accused of having an affair with him. Now how many times have you seen such type of a filmy scenario in real life?
6) The hero’s mother is a very typical one. She spent the early years of her marriage in her work ,business and social parties. She never got the time for her kids. She is quite contrary in thoughts and perspectives to her son. He and his siblings were brought up by the servants and never got quality time or even non-quality time with their mother. And now her son will take revenge by marrying of his own will to a very family-oriented girl whom his mother dislikes from the core of her heart. While in real life, this might be prevalent, but it is quite rare .The rich families too can have very good understanding between them.
7) Seriously…enough of the typical 2 sided stories. On one hand we have the same old poor family. Father has either passed away ( if alive then he is in a very bad health or has a lot of debts/loans) . 3 or 4 daughters. The eldest is well past her age for marriage but she is not getting good marriage proposals. The other one is our beautiful heroin. The younger one’s are just fillers. Mother is sometimes good and sometimes not too understanding. And the usual phupo’s or mamu’s family having their own suitors for the heroin. On the other hand we have the wealthy hero. His non caring mother, understanding but helpless dad, and a bigri hui sister who gets a reality check by the end of the drama. Where gone the middle class people who constitute a very large part of the society?
8)There are no other jobs or occupations in the world except for ek bara sa business for our dear rich hero(and that too was not formed by the struggle of our hero instead it was inherited by his father). While for the heroin,it is B.A or B.Com. So that later on she can work in the hero’s office. No offence but in this era, there are as many field of studies as you can think of. And the female is also taking active part in them along with the males. So why is it that only these two or three stereotypical fields are shown in our drama?
9)Why are the outdoors not shown in dramas more efficiently?(Ofcourse except for a corner of any resturant,Bin Qasim park, Park Towers and the most favorite of them i.e. sea side with a view of Hyper Star in behind )no other place is shown as such. There are soo many beautiful places and landmarks in Pakistan. Those are the places which should be promoted through our dramas e.g. even the baazars of Lahore have their own charm and showing them would definitely give a more real effect and people would be able to connect with them more.
10)Why is it that the first person (compatible in looks and age) who crosses path with you, whether its on a road,a cinema,a library or someone’s wedding,he eventually becomes your hero?Coming to real life, there are many situations when we accidently meet random people but it doesn’t mean at all that we fall in love with them. Ye to bhot dur ki baat hai,we don’t even remember them and its highly unlikely that we would actually even see them ever. In our dramas,e.g. the heroin meets some guy at a book store, they have a short conversation about some random thing, let’s say a book, and then they part ways. But no,then again they collide with each other at a mutual friend’s party and express with surprise “Are aap?Aap yahan kia kar rahe/rahi hain?” And then we all know that subsequently they will fall for each other.
So this is it from my side. Thanks for reading & maintaining your patience.Which team are you on?Team drama or Team real-life?
Feel free to add your own points as well.
