Her last three films – Ek Tha Tiger, Jab Tak Hain Jaan and Dhoom:3 – did phenomenally well at the box office and now Katrina Kaif is ready to sizzle on 70mm once again. Her big budget film Bang Bang co-starring Hrithik Roshan will hit the theatres tomorrow and though the film faced many hurdles during the shooting, the action thriller looks promising. We recently caught up with Kat to talk about her much-awaited film and as we got talking she spoke about others things as well. Read on to know what all Ranbir Kapoor’s ladylove told us…
How similar is Bang Bang to Knight and Day?
I know it’s an official remake of Knight and Day which is good because I think the makers were inspired by the film even though it was only the germ or the seed of the film which they have taken. They have still done it in a proper way which I believe how it should be done. Otherwise a lot of people take inspirations and do not go take it ahead the official way. Bang Bang is not the same as Knight and Day. There are certain sequences which have been picked up but Siddharth has definitely changed the story and has adapted the way he wanted to make the film.
In ZNMD you did scuba diving, in Ek Tha Tiger we saw you doing action, in Dhoom:3 you played a gymnast and now again in Bang Bang there is action. So has physical preparation been the biggest challenge for you lately?
It depends upon the film. To be very honest, if you talk about fitness then there are levels of fitness. Unless you’re an athlete, you will go through high and lows. Some films require you to be in a certain way for example in Dhoom it was about trying to show a gymnast in a circus. So if you’re showing a gymnast he/she can look only in one way – strong, in strength, have muscles. In Ek That Tiger, actually there was no such requirement per say, I was playing an agent. So in ETT my level off fitness was no way near to what it was in Dhoom. And now my level of fitness is not what it was in Dhoom because that is very hard to maintain. So it goes up and goes down. In Bang Bang, I play Harleen who lives in Shimla and works in bank. So she doesn’t need to do pull ups and press ups. But when it’s required I make sure I take time out and go through the whole process to look a certain way.
Rarely do we see actresses doing hardcore action films. Do you think with this film that jinx will be broken in Bollywood?
I think everyone is doing the kind of work which they like. At the time when o signed Dhoom:3, I was on the car and there was this song playing and it struck me at that all I want to do is dance. I wanted to do something different with dance and that was Dhoom gave me that space.
You’re last few films have been very commercial. Do you miss doing films like Rajneeti?
That film was such an amazing experience. Prakash ji is such a lovely director to work with. It was a very nice experience overall. For me, every role that I do is different in its own way. After Tiger, I did Yash ji’s film which was a completely different world for me. The way Adi and Yashji present women is quite different from the usual films.
You have worked with all the superstars – Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor. But are you open to working with new actors or is it that you’re just being offered films opposite superstars?
I don’t think anyone particularly tries to approach me with a particular star cast. In fact, I won’t mention the names coz I don’t want anybody to feel bad but out of my last five films, in three or maybe two of them I was approached before the hero was. One film that I am doing Fitoor which is Abhishek Kapoor’s directorial when venture. When I signed the film, he had no hero. Later, after few months he signed Aditya Roy Kapur. And at that time I hadn’t seen Aashiqui 2, I saw it later but I didn’t say, ‘Arre yeh kaun hai.’ I loved his script so I signed it. New York was Neil’s second film so I have worked with new actors.
How you explain you’re good box office record? It can’t be all luck….
See nobody has the answer of why or how. But the only thing that I do or would advice others in the same position to do is just keep praying that the record remains the same…smiles.
So would you say you’re script sense is good?
I would hope so because I have always tried to follow it and have tried to go with what I wanted to do. Sometimes I may have been wrong but I have been happy for the most part or choices or places that I have found myself in.
There have been reports that you’re not willing to promote Bang Bang on Bigg Boss….
It’s not my decision….
So you want to go and promote you’re film on Bigg Boss…
I want to go where I am told to go and promote the film. Because if I decide the marketing plan then I will have to decide the whole plan.
